The oil filter serves to remove foreign matter from the refrigerant oil, so that the oil level regulators and compressors are protected.

The S-91 series oil filters are suitable for both low-pressure and high-pressure oil control systems. The filters are suitable for HCFC and HFC refrigerants and their associated oils. Although the S-91 series filters are also suitable for HFC/POE combinations, AC&R recommends the S-40 series oil filters (possibly with integrated dryer). The use of an oil filter or oil filter dryer provides a higher level of system protection than a mesh screen filter. The oil filter should be installed directly upstream of a mechanical oil level regulator to protect the float-operated needle valve from dirt.
